THE SHAPE of THE GAME
Game FAQs
What is 360 Hoops?
360 Hoops is a dynamic twist on traditional basketball, played in a circle where players can score on any of three baskets.
How many players are on a team?
Each team consists of four players, with three on the court at a time.
How do substitutions work?
The fourth player rotates in whenever your team is in the queue, following a set rotation to ensure all four players compete together.
How do you win?
In Official 360 Hoops tournaments, the game is played with a 14-minute running clock, and the team with the most points at the buzzer wins. For exhibition games, the first team to reach 21 points wins.
Is There Overtime?
What is Considered Out of Bounds?
Once the offense brings the ball inside the circle, everything within the circle is fair game. The defense must always start inside the circle. If the ball is deflected or exits the circle, it is considered out of bounds, and possession is lost by the last team to touch the ball. Additionally, if the ball enters into the center of the hoop over the three backboards, the game is stopped, and the team that last touched the ball loses possession.
When Possession Changes, Do You Have to Check the Ball Up?
No. 360 Hoops is designed for fast-paced action. After a stop, the defense takes the ball to the transition circle and quickly re-enters to resume play. If the team in the queue is too slow, they’ll need to pick up the pace!
Are There Referees?
Yes, each 360 Hoops court has one referee and one scorekeeper to ensure smooth, fair gameplay, maintain sportsmanship, and keep everything organized.
How does scoring work?
After completing three passes, scoring is unlocked and you can score on any of the three baskets! Standard shots are worth 1 point, while shots made from any of the three logo decals within the circle are worth 2 points. The referee will confirm logo shots with the scorekeeper. Once you score, your team moves to defense, aiming for a stop to quickly return to offense and avoid entering the queue.
Are there foul shots?
No, 360 Hoops does not include foul shots. To maintain the fast-paced nature of the game, a foul results in a loss of possession, giving the other two teams an opportunity to score before you regain the ball. We emphasize clean, competitive play, with referees ensuring the games are fair and well-managed.
Are jump balls used?
When a jump ball is called, possession is awarded to the defensive team. The offensive team simply transitions to defense without leaving the court. This rule keeps the game moving while ensuring neither team is penalized for a competitive play.
What happens if gameplay is disrupted by a ball from another 360 Hoops court?
If play is interrupted, the referee will ensure the game resumes exactly as it was before the disruption. In tournaments of this scale, occasional interruptions are expected, but we will handle them swiftly and keep the game moving.
What is the Sportsmanship Policy?
Good sportsmanship and teamwork are expected from all players. Each team will have a coach to represent them in appeals to referees or tournament officials. Coaches are also responsible for guiding their team’s behavior—and that of their fans—both on and off the court at 360 Hoops events.
What if a player repeatedly commits fouls or commits a flagrant foul?
Fair play and sportsmanship are fundamental on a 360 Hoops court. Referees and scorekeepers at each court ensure that all play remains clean, fair, and competitive. If a player exhibits uncontrollable behavior or disrupts the game, they will be disqualified, and their team will continue with three remaining players.
