How 360 Hoops Turned a Parking Lot Into the Most Popular Destination at Upper Macungie's Day of Play
A parking lot. Two 360 Hoops systems. More than 300 kids. One unforgettable day.
On Monday, July 20, something different happened in Upper Macungie Township.
What started as a community Day of Play at the new Upper Macungie Township Community Lifestyle Center at Grange Park became a glimpse into what the future of youth sports can look like.
More than 300 campers from Fogelsville Elementary, Jaindl Elementary, and Veterans Memorial Elementary came together for a full day of activities designed to keep kids active, engaged, and having fun. Alongside pickleball, relay races, inflatables, and other attractions, one activation consistently drew the biggest smiles:
360 Hoops.
A Basketball Experience Unlike Anything They've Seen.
Instead of one basket and long lines, campers discovered six baskets, nonstop movement, and an entirely new way to play.
With two portable 360 Hoops systems deployed, an ordinary parking lot became a dynamic basketball destination where up to 60 boys and girls at a time rotated through games, shooting challenges, knockout, and team competitions.
There were no sidelines. No waiting.
Just constant participation.
For many campers, it wasn't just their first time playing 360 Hoops—it was the first time they'd ever experienced basketball this way.
More Participation. More Smiles.
Throughout the day, counselors, recreation staff, township leadership, and families watched as hundreds of children stayed active while laughing, competing, and encouraging one another.
The format naturally rewarded teamwork, communication, movement, and creativity while giving significantly more children opportunities to touch the basketball compared to traditional play.
The energy around the hoops never slowed.
Then the Harlem Wizards Arrived.
The day's biggest surprise came when the world-famous Harlem Wizards stepped onto the 360 Hoops courts.
Known for entertaining millions through their unique blend of basketball, comedy, and community fundraising, the Wizards challenged camp counselors to a game unlike anything they'd played before.
What followed was exactly what 360 Hoops was built for.
High-flying dunks.
Impossible passes.
360-degree trick shots.
Music.
Dancing.
Laughter.
The six-rim setup transformed an exhibition into a true spectacle, creating unforgettable moments for everyone watching.
A Vision for the Future
For 360 Hoops, events like Upper Macungie's Day of Play represent something much bigger than a single activation.
They demonstrate how parks, schools, recreation departments, and communities can create more engaging basketball programming while maximizing space and increasing participation.
One parking lot.
Two systems.
Six baskets.
More than 300 kids discovering a new way to play.
That's the future we're building.
